South Korea likely to hold Presidential election in May.
South Korean presidential election is likely to take place on May 9 after the Constitutional Court decide to uphold the impeachment of former President Park Geun- Hye and remove her from office, Yonhap reported on Monday citing a senior official of the Ministry of Interior.
" As many people have been thinking, we, too, have internally chosen May 9 as the presidential election date at the working level," the official stated. The election date is set to be confirmed later in the week administrative procedures are completed.
The law stipulates the presidential election must take place within 60 days after Park's removal from office, which occurred on Friday following the court's ruling on her amid the corruption scandal surrounding the former president.
