Sturgeon to seek Scottish independence referendum.

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said at a press conference on Monday she will seek a second independence referendum in the light of Brexit. She intends to ask the Scottish parliament for approval next week before the decision is passed to the UK parliament.

She claimed her choice was influenced by the fact that the Scottish people voted to remain in the European Union and that after the United Kingdom decided to leave the bloc, the change of Scotland's future become "inevitable". Sturgeon asserted that it would either change by the country leaving the EU along with the rest of the UK or voting for independence.

According to the first minister, such a major decision on the change in the country's road ahead should not be made by one person, which would be the case had she ruled out a new referendum. "It will be Scotland's choice," Sturgeon insisted. She pointed she "worked really hard" to reach an agreement with the UK government to meet some of Scotland's requirements regarding Brexit negotiations, such as remaining in the single market, but since the country was "ignored" she had to take action before "the damage is done".

The UK parliament is set to vote on the Brexit bill today and if it is passed, Prime Minister Theresa May could trigger Article 50 as soon as tomorrow.
